Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC)
Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) is a solution containing concentrated regenerative cells sourced from a patient’s bone marrow. Often referred to as the ‘blood cell factory,’ bone marrow houses a variety of cells crucial for supporting bodily functions, promoting healing, and enhancing the immune system.
While BMAC treatments are mostly labeled as “Stem Cell” treatments, stem cells themselves make up only a small part of BMAC. Instead, the effectiveness of bone marrow treatments lies in the interaction of stem cells with numerous other cells, growth factors, and anti-inflammatory proteins.
Much like an orchestra, stem cells merely act as the “conductor,” guiding the function of many other vital components. A key player within BMAC is actually the Interleukin Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP), which plays a pivotal role in easing pain associated with chronic inflammation.
Chronic pain or functional issues develop in cases where a patient has a disease or injury that the body cannot heal completely. BMAC injections can step in to stimulate the body's natural healing mechanisms to promote tissue regeneration, potentially repair and decrease pain in the affected area.
Injecting BMAC into a targeted area can decrease inflammation, reduce pain, promote healing, and even restore normal function.

Benefits of BMAC Procedure
- Effective for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, including tendon, ligament, and joint issues.
- Best addresses osteoarthritis (knee, hip, shoulder, thumb, wrist, ankle, etc.), lumbar degenerative disc disease, lumbar "bulging" discs, severe and chronic tendon tears that do not respond to PRP, meniscal tears, and labral tears.
- Recommended for middle-aged to senior adults with joint osteoarthritis who want an alternative to total joint replacement surgery.
BMAC Procedure Overview
We will review post-treatment instructions with you. You will be given post-procedure sheets for more details.
- Expect increased pain in the treated area for the first 2-3 days. By day 4, the pain should return to baseline levels. We recommend patients take it easy for a few days. Stay mobile but avoid overly strenuous activities. If your job is sedentary, you can return to work the next day
